.PROCESS FOR BECOMING A MENTOR.....

  1. Interested party contacts Dads For a Day by email, phone, or completing the application.
  2. After initial contact is made, a DFAD representative will schedule a meeting with the to discuss the program and answer any questions.
  3. If interested, application will be completed if it has not already been submitted. It will require three letters of recommendation, one of which must be his wife or family member if no wife.
  4. A background check will be done.
  5. Photo of your driver’s license and proof of insurance will be required.
  6. You will be matched with a child based on mutual interests and location (within 30 minute drive).
  7. When a match has been determined, a DFAD representative will introduce you to the parent and child. If all people are comfortable, a DFAD team is formed.   If it is not a good match, another child will be found.
  8. Once a DFAD team is formed, there will be eight meetings (one every two or three weeks) which will be mandatory that the team members attend. At these sessions, you will meet the other 11 teams that have been formed.
  9. For the first year in the program, it is recommended that the teams do things with at least one other team (i.e. bowling, hiking, fishing, etc.)  After the first year, the mentor and mentee may do things on their own.
